FIFA U17 WOMEN'S WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS: UGANDA SETTLES FOR A POINT AGAINST CAMEROON AT HOME.

Category

In the fervent clash of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers held on the 3rd - February 2024, Uganda and Cameroon left football fans on the edge of their seats, concluding the first leg with a one-all draw at the vibrant St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

The first half saw Uganda Teen Cranes seizing control, with Agnes Nabukenya igniting the scoreboard just three minutes after the half-hour mark. A seamless sequence unfolded as Esther Nangendo initiated an attack from the midfield, releasing Shadia Nabirye on the right wing. Nabirye, with nimble finesse, maneuvered past a defender before laying the ball on a silver platter for Nabukenya, who dispatched a low drive beyond the reach of the Cameroon goalkeeper.

Heading into the mandatory break, Uganda basked in their lead, despite Cameroon's relentless pursuit of a quick response. The halftime respite did little to dampen the spirits of the visitors, as they returned rejuvenated for the second half, determined to alter the narrative.

The turning point arrived in the 50th minute when Cameroon's Ernestine Heutchou orchestrated a brilliant move, drawing the game level. The tension soared as both teams battled fiercely, each vying for a decisive advantage. Yet, when the final whistle echoed across the stadium, the scoreline remained deadlocked at one goal apiece.

The tale, however, is far from concluded. The stage is set for a captivating sequel as the two teams brace themselves for the return leg in Yaounde, Cameroon, next Friday. The drama continues, and the football world eagerly awaits the unfolding chapters of this gripping encounter.
