The Mattuga Veterans Soccer Association Soccer Tournament second edition opens with a very entertaining game between Roofing FC and God Is Able FC on Saturday 6th January 2024 at Lwadda Primary School Matugga.

This tournament was first launched in 2022 that saw Spare FC beating First Hotel 2 goals by 1 at the final. The second edition was supposed to be held in 2023, but due to a busy schedule on the association's calendar in the year and the busy play grounds; they decided to hold it this year 2024.
This year’s edition match opener ended in a goal less settlement after both sides missed several chances to put the ball in the net. Hundreds of fans turned up to witness this grand opening which gave them a thrilling and exciting evening.

Muwanga Bernard the secretary (MVSA) and the chairman MVSA soccer tournament second edition believes they have had a vibrant opening match day for this year.

“ We hope and believe that our objectives of the tournament have been achieved in the opening game. We have witnessed so many young talents and a high level of discipline which is our back for more editions to come. We are back after a year’s break but now we have space since other tournaments are already completed. We have had a very big number of fans and this was so great since it was our opening match. This tournament is expect to run up to Easter, nearly four months expecting around 20 teams or less for better arrangements due to limited number of play grounds. All teams are free to register as long as they follow the rules of the tournament and no team is allowed to field players from the Uganda Premier league and the Big League respectively. We are here to develop new talent. Fixtures will be out soon as we wait more teams to register for the tournament, added Muwanga Bernard The Chairman Organizing committee MVSA soccer tournament edition two 2024.”

“It’s been a fairly good game in our opening match. It has been a strong team but we managed to put up a show and came out with a point and we believe we can go ahead and build on that performance to run for the title. I believe my team played as one today yet we played on away.” Said Sebyaala Amidu Coach God Is Able FC.

''It has been a good opening game, always the beginning is head but we have managed to get a point in this game. I thank MVSA for giving us a chance to be part of this tournament. In all competitions Roofings FC plays in, we always look up to the trophy and yes even this time round we believe we can be victors,” said Mukiibi Denis Head Coach Roofings FC

“When MVSA reached out to me on their mission to develop the young talents in our community I was so very excited to be part. The opening game has been very entertaining according to the display of discipline showcased in the time of play. We pledge to continue standing together with MVSA all through this tournament,” said Mugumya Geoffrey Managing Director Unitech Auto Tractor Parts Limited the official sponsors of this tournament.
