The Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) embraced Tug of War sport as the newest sport at their AGM in December last year. It was confirmed by AUUS President Mrs Peninah Kebenge that her EXCOM was excited and wishes to take on Tug of war sport as the newest sport discipline in the next university games.

This positivity was witnessed when AUUS invited Federation of Uganda Tug of War Associations (FUTWA) to showcase a demo on 21st Dec 2023 at the closing ceremony of the just concluded 19th edition of the AUUS  University Games which were hosted by Uganda Christian University in Mukono.

A demonstration game of  the U23  female 520kg weight category between Uganda Christian University and Makerere University, excited  over 1500 University students who were present from more than 21 universities across the country.
The Makerere University ladies proved a hard nut to crack as they gave the hosts Uganda Christian University ladies a run for their money by winning all the two rounds.

We have always thought of having Tug of war sport  as part of our National  university games competition but we lacked the right  stakeholders to give us the right sense of direction especially in form of training and officiation. When I was approached by Dr. Kintu Edmund the President, Federation of Uganda Tug Of War Associations with their bid to develop this sport through working with AUUS,  I knew we were moving in the right direction of making our dream come true with FUTWA's cooperation. We believe we will soon be able to hold a more professional university tug of war league since we are in touch with right Stakeholders , added Mrs Peninah Kabenge President AUUS"
