COVID -19 AND SPORTS: WE CAN STILL RUN THE SEASON TO COMPLETION- FMU.

Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) says that the time left this year is enough to have the National Rally Championship (NRC) completed.

The NRC took a forced break in March as a result of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic which caused government to be a ban on sports activities for the past two months.

By the time of the forced break, only two national events had happened; that is the Mbarara rally and Jinja Rally.

The Pearl of Africa Rally that was slated for this July was called off; meaning that the champion is left with four events from which the National Champion will be determined.

FMU believes that they are behind schedule but the remaining events can be re-scheduled but under strict restrictions on the fans.

“We still have plenty of time for us to decide and indeed chances are high that the championship will continue and be completed,’ said Jeff Kabagambe, FMU Deputy Vice President in charge of motor rallying.

“We shall be able to at least do two or three more events later in the year. We can only start worrying about the cancellation of the championship if the current situation goes up to November.  However, with all options in place, it will be up to the sporting commission and executive to decide about the championship,”  he concluded.

Fred Busulwa is currently leading the championship with 130points; 20points more than second-placed Omar Mayanja while Hassan Alwi in third position.

In two-wheel category, Ibrahim Lubega tops with two points ahead of Jackson Serwanga.
