The Light Fly Weight Bronze winner for Uganda at the 2014 Common Wealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland was set to take part in the World Boxing Championship that was slated for May in France as part of the Tokyo 2020 qualifiers which was called off due to the Corona virus pandemic.

Fazil Juma Kaggwa who is currently based in Netherlands is now very worried of what lies ahead of the qualifiers in which he wanted to make his Olympic dream come true.

Kaggwa was named by Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) alongside Emily Nakalema (welterweight), Catharine Nanziri (flyweight), Isaac Masembe (featherweight), Yasin Adinan (lightweight),  Alex Bwambale (heavyweight), and David Ssemujju to represent Uganda at the second phase of the boxing Olympic qualifiers; the World Boxing Championship in France with a chance of joining Captain Shadir Musa, who has already qualified for Tokyo Olympic Games.

"I called off my would be first professional fight in order to fight for my country in the Olympic qualifiers but not it can happen because of the pandemic,” Kaggwa told sportznow.ug.

Kaggwa, who is also a bronze medalist at the 2015 Africa Boxing Championship in Casablanca, Morocco left Uganda in 2016 to look for greener pastures by starting a professional boxing career.

The Tokyo Olympics were due to begin in July but were rescheduled for July 2021 due to the worldwide lockdown which is as a result of the deadly corona virus.
