BRIAN NKUUBI: I WILL FIGHT FOR A START PLACE.

BRIAN NKUUBI: I WILL FIGHT FOR A START PLACE.

Former Vipers Football Club Mid-fielder Brian Nkuubi will endeavor to be included in the starting lineup for URA Football Club when the Star Times Uganda Premier League kicks off on November 20th. Nkuubi who was signed a three – year contact as a free agent has claimed he will work his hardest to be included in Coach Sam Ssimbwa’s plans for the forthcoming season. “URA FC has a pool of many good players and I expect a lot of competition for positions,” Nkuubi said upon his unveiling. “I will compete with the best. I have enough experience and I feel I can add a lot to the club in the coming season. The fans should expect hard work from me,” he added. Nkuubi was one of the many players whose contracts were not extended at Vipers; a club where he spent five seasons and won three Uganda Premier League titles. For the last three seasons at Vipers, Nkuubi has been on and off the pitch because of injuries but he is with no doubt one of the best attacking mid-fielders in the country who will give fellow players in the same position a good run for their money. Coach Ssimbwa will now have a lot of options in the mid-field offensive positions with the likes of Shafic Kagimu, Hassan Kalega, Ivan Ntege and Jackson Nunda who also joined from KCCA FC; all at his disposal. Before finally settling at URA, the former Kira Young Football Club player was also linked with a move to Sports Club Villa and Wakiso Giants Football Club. Nkuubi brings lots of experience and the mentality of league winners. In this transfer widow, the 2006 Uganda Premier League champions have also added to their arsenal goal keeper Hannington Ssebwalunnyo, Arafat Galiwango and Davis Ssali. Last season, Ssimbwa’s troops settled for the fifth after FUFA decided to cancel the league due to the outbreak of the corona virus pandemic. Story by Joseph Mary Ssempiira. jmssempiira@sportznow.ug
