STEVEN MUKWALA: THE COMPETITION WAS STIFF FROM DAY ONE.

Uganda Cranes Head Coach Johnathan Mckinstry named his 25-man squad for the “2020” Total Championship of Africa Nations (CHAN) Finals.

The selection confirmed the shocking dropping of URA Football Club Forward Steven Mukwala who was the top scorer of last season in the Star Times Uganda Premier League while playing for Maroons Football Club on loan from Vipers Sports Club.

However, Mukwala was grateful to the Cranes technical team for having him as part of the Cranes that took part in the Pre-CHAN mini tournament in Cameroon where Uganda Cranes played three games winning two games against Zambia (2-0) and Niger (3-0); and drawing one against Cameroon (1-1).

“I'm grateful for being considered by the Uganda Cranes Technical Staff for the CHAN training camp from Kampala to Cameroon,” a statement reads on Mukwala’s Face Book page.

“The competition was stiff from day one and we all gave our best. However the coach had to select the final 25. I wish my teammates and the entire Uganda Cranes the best in Cameroon,” the statement concludes.

In attack, the department that would have absorbed Mukwala, Mckinstry opted for forwards; Joackiam Ojera of URA Football Club, Brian Aheebwa of KCCA Football Club, Ben Ocen of Police Football Club, Viane Ssekajugo of Wakiso Giants Football Club, Ibrahim Orit Ibrahim of Vipers Sports Club, Muhammad Shaban Jagason of Vipers SC and Milton Karisa of Vipers SC.

In the Pre-CHAN tournament, Mukwala played one game and scored one goal against Zambia.

Uganda Cranes are currently camped in Douala ahead of the group stage matches where they will play alongside the defending Champions Morocco, Rwanda and Togo.

The finals to be in Cameroon from 16th January to 7th February 2021.
