Kyadondo Rugby Club bid farewell to the outgoing Head Teacher of Jinja Senior Secondary School, Dinah Hope Nyago who is leaving the school to join politics at parliamentary level.

At the function, Kyadondo Rugby Club also used the opportunity to honor Nyago for the role she played in the growth and development of sports and rugby in particular during her time tenure at the school.

During her time, Dinah Hope Nyago provided sports scholarships to excelling rugby players through a partnership the school had with Kyadondo Rugby Club.

The Vice Chairman of Kyadondo Rugby Club, Philip Kibiojana, hailed the former Head Teacher for the remarkable work in terms growing the game of rugby in Jinja and Uganda at large.

“On my behalf, on behalf of Kyadondo Rugby Club and on behalf all our associates, I want to appreciate you for all that you have done for Kyadondo Rugby Club throughout our partnership with Jinja S.S.S,” Kiboijana noted.

“Very many rugby players have benefited through your policies which offered them scholarships. You have supported many players who are coming up at Kyadondo and helped us build a great working relationship and partnership with Jinja S.S.S,” he added.

“We wish you the best of luck as you join another life in politics,” he concluded.

Timothy Byaruhanga, the patron of Jinja S.S.S Rugby Team revealed that the school, through Nyago's policies, started with three academic scholarships but the number has now grown to 18 players now.

“More than 50 players have benefited from this project and are actively playing for clubs including Hippos and Kyadondo in the topflight,” said Byaruhanga.

In her remarks, Nyago thanked the rugby fraternity for the special recognition and the support they gave her is pushing sports forward.

“I want to thank Kyadondo Rugby Club, Hippos Rugby Football Club and the whole rugby fraternity for the support and partnerships. Majority of our learners have been finding their way to competitive rugby through Hippos and Kyadondo. The rugby fraternity has been supportive availing equipment for the students to train and also to the management.

Dinah Nyago receives award of honour.

Nyago who has been Head Teacher at Jinja S.S.S for the last 12 years will be contesting for the Njeru Municipality parliamentary seat in the forthcoming 2021 national elections but promised to continue lobbying for more support for sports.

“I am leaving the school but am not abandoning sports, I will continue supporting this school and lobby more for sports,” she concluded.

During her term at Jinja S.S.S, the school broke the tradition of rugby to become the first upcountry school to win the National Schools Rugby titles three times on the trot from 2016 to 2019 and also represented the country at the regional games.
