Jacob Kiplimo makes history for Uganda with another stellar kick finish for gold at the Commonwealth Games.

The 10,000m 2022 Commonwealth Gold medalist put up a classic split in the last 70m to win gold in the men’s 5000m in a time of 13:8.08 at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

Kiplimo was followed to the podium by two East Africans compatriots from Kenya Nicholas Kimeli (Silver) and Jacob Krop (Bronze).

By winning double Gold in both the 10000m and 5000m, the 20 year-old Kiplimo joins the table of Ugandan greats; Joshua Cheptegei and Moses Kipsiro who have also done a double at the same Commonwealth Games; in 2018, Gold Coast and in 2010, New Delhi.

Kiplimo's Gold in the 5000m brings Uganda's medals tally to five medal_ two gold medals from Kiplimo, one Gold by Victor Kiplangat in the Marathon and one Bronze medal by Teddy Nakimu in Boxing and Peruth Chemutai in the 3000m steeplechase.
