CECAFA AFCON U17 ZONAL QUALIFIES: UGANDA CUBS LIFT TROPHY AND PERSONAL AWARDS.

The Uganda National U-17 team, The Uganda Cubs successfully defended the CECAFA U-17 Championship with a 3-1 victory over Tanzania in the CECAFA AFCON U17 ZONAL QUALIFIES at the Stade De Umuganda, Rubavu in Rwanda on Tuesday, 22nd December 2020.

The Cubs scored through Ivan Irinimbabazi, Travis Mutyaba and team Captain Ibrahim Juma in the second half of the game to give Coach Hamuzah Lutalo a well deserved win and trophy.

First on the score sheet was defender Irinimbabazi who connected Vincent Muleme’s free kick with a powerful header to hit the back of the net in the 62nd minute.

Midfielder Mutyaba the eventually tournament Most Valuable Player scored the team’s second before Ibrahim Juma stepped up to score through a penalty spot

The Tanzania goal was an own goal from Mulema.

This was the second time the Cubs were lifting the trophy for the second time in a row that also saw three players lift individual celebrated accolades.

Mutyaba was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Oscar Mawa walked away with the top scorer’s boot for his 6 tournament goals while Henry Mwebe scoped the best goalkeeper award.

Uganda Cub’s road to victory finals started with an outstanding 5-0 performance against Kenya which was by was followed by 3-1 win against Ethiopia.

In the semi finals they fought and won 1-0 over a stubborn Djibouti.

In addition to winning the CECAFA U-17 Championship, the Cubs also secured a slot in the AFCON U 17 FINALS that will be hosted in Morocco in 2021.
