FUBA CONSIDERING SOME LEAGUE REFORMS TO BEAT TIME.

Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations – FUBA are in view of some changes in the organization of this year’s league season as they look to minimize the effect of the lockdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Basketball like all the others sports disciplines in the country and worldwide has been hit hard by the pandemic which even forced the federation to call off the season tip-off which was slated for March 20th and are not sure on when the league will kick off.

“We are already two months behind schedule but our plans now are to have all the regular season games done by the end of October,” FUBA President Nasser Sserunjogi told sportznow.ug.

“If all goes well, we want to start in the first week of June and maybe, we can do it all by the end of October,” SSerunjogi added.

There are some voices in the fraternity for proposals like changing the league playing format but the president believes that with or without such changes, the league can still be played to everyone’s satisfaction.

SSerunjogi explained:

“There are some voices are proposing that we increase on the number of games to be played per team in a week because under normal circumstances, teams had been playing one game each per week; but now many of us think that we can make a minimum of two and maximum of three in a week if we are to play around with the time we have,” he further explained.

For such voices to be heard and considered, it will be now a matter of increasing on the number of league venues from the two known one of YMCA in Wandegeya and the MTN Sports Arena in Lugog.

“We are also looking at having more games played over the weekends at such venues like UCU in Mukono where we can use more than two courts at the same time in addition to YMCA and Lugogo,” Sserunjogi further explained.

“That’s our plan but it can only stand if we start in June. We don’t want to be forced into the scenario of finishing the league in the following year has it was the case for last season and in 2016,” Sserunjogi added.
