UGVOLLEYBALL ELECTIONS 2021: UVF CONGRESS ELECTS KAIRUNGI OTIKA AS THE 2ND VICE PRESIDENT.

Nkumba University Volleyball Team Manager Salma Kairungi Otika has been elected as the 2nd vice president of Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF). This was at the UVF elective Congress that was held on Sunday. 31st. January. 2021 at the Hockey Grounds, Lugogo.

The position of 2nd vice president is UVF’s most powerful executive position for the female gender.

Kairungi Otika pulled off a stiff run from two contenders; Hellen Nakimu and Faridah Nalinya.

She collected 129 votes of the 282 total votes cast ahead of Nakimu_ 115 votes and Nalinya _ 38 votes.

Kairungi will now serve volleyball as a part of the UVF Executive for the next four years.

Speaking to www.sportznow.ug Kairungi said:

“I am very happy to be elected to this position. It is important for me. It is important for the game and it is important for women.”

“In the executive committee, we work as a team, but personally I will carry on working in order to have more women involved in the sport at all levels.”

“I will inspire women to believe they can lead and I will support women to play volleyball.”

Kairungi was appointed Nkumba University Volleyball Team Manager three years ago and under her leadership; the team has become a great force to reckon with locally and in the region.

Nkumba Univeisry Women are the reigning National League Champions and also represented the country at the last edition of the African Club Championships.

Kairungi has been Team Manager of the U 20 women National Volleyball Team since 2019.
