The value of this mission is derived from the gradual acquisition of life enhancing attributes such as integrity, commitment, teamwork, hard work and sportsmanship which are fundamental to the pursuit of “personal excellence” and to the process of striving to "Be the Best That You Can Be."

Vision

Our vision is to develop and maintain a program that will inspire excellence in the sport and produce elite swimmers, who will represent SAILFISH and the nation at large in all levels of swim competitions.

Goal

To promote, foster, and encourage swimming and associated aquatic sports while sharing our passion for swimming.

Core Values

  • Pursuit of Excellence: SAILFISH swim club values the individual pursuit of excellence. Each member of the club is encouraged to set and work towards achieving personal goals.
As a community, we recognize and celebrate all accomplishments, not everyone will be a national, state or regional champion. Our objective is that all swimmers have the opportunity to participate in swim programs that provide for long-term growth both athletic and personal.
We seek to encourage the development of other life-skills besides swimming such as goal setting, teamwork, sportsmanship and how to deal with adversity and disappointment. Pursuit of excellence is a team effort, everyone plays a role in creating a supportive environment that leads to individual excellence for each athlete. This includes swimmers, parents, coaches, officials, and SAILFISH swim club as an administrative organization.
“Excelling in swimming is all about beating (improving) your Personal Best Time.”
  • Sportsmanship: “Treating others the way you want to be treated.” Good sportsmanship is demonstrated when all members, fans, and parents show respect for themselves, teammates, opponents and coaches. True sportsmanship relies upon good communication.
  • Team spirit: Showing commitment, support and teamwork, volunteerism and encouraging fellow teammates in the lanes and at swim meets. We understand that swimming is just like any other sport you lose or win but never look back on it with desperation because you always do your best.
  • Hard work: Putting in extra effort to achieve the desired goals and reaching the greatest potential. "No one ever got stronger by working less"sailfish

Aim & Objectives

  • To encourage the development of swimming in the region. It should be noted that the club is not limited to only GEMS Cambridge International School students, it is open to anyone who meets the required standards.
  • To provide excellence in professional coaching and programs to develop individuals to the best of their abilities to compete at the highest possible levels.
  • To encourage excellence in swimming at all standards by participating in a number of swim meets at different levels and annually hosting our own Open Meet, open to swim clubs from all over the country/region.
  • To instill the self-discipline, goal-oriented behavior, teamwork and efficient time management required to excel in competitive swimming.
  • To make swimming fun for all team members – from novice beginners to top level competitors.
  • To build a community of families that supports the club and one another’s efforts.
  • To offer recreationally interested swimmers the opportunity to develop their swimming ability.

Philosophy

  • SAILFISH swim Club was created to provide long term growth and development of the athlete as a person, not only as a swimmer. To achieve this, we encourage the process of achieving excellence through undertaking the responsibility to provide each individual with the support necessary in their pursuit of reaching their greatest potential.
  • We emphasize kicking and technique at the younger ages, and progress to IM (Individual Medley) training as the athletes grow in the program. This philosophy allows athletes to become their best in their teenage and college years.
  • SAILFISH Swim Club is dedicated to equal opportunity for all swimmers. It will not discriminate against any person, either member, family or guest of its program or activities, on the basis of creed, religion, race, color, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, political orientation, ancestry, age, national origin or the presence of a physical, sensory, or mental handicap unless there is a bona fide inability to perform or participate in an activity.
We believe that through emphasizing the process, each individual will develop strong personal characteristics, such as an appreciation for the values of hard work, teamwork sportsmanship and excellence.

Motto/ slogan:

" Beat the Clock!  "

This implies it’s all about improving your time/records. Beating your personal best time regardless of your position in a race is the primary goal, winning a race is the icing on the cake.
Working towards beating/improving your personal best times is the basis for “goal setting” which is essential in the life of a competitive swimmer.
Therefore, at SAILFISH Swim Club “it’s a race against time” not the swimmers in the next lanes.

In a broader sense, coaching is much more of a life process and a “people process” than an athletic process. Not only are kids wrapping their lives around a team, training, a process, and a coach, but in many ways, their emotional development, school/college decision, and the person they become will be shaped by this process as well.
Our mission is to be more than a coach, but rather a partner with our swimmers on their athletic journey, and to a greater extent, partners on their life journey. Our ultimate goal is that four or eight years from now they are swimming at their very best, loving the sport, are leaders on their teams, and are better people.
We want to create a culture where kids love to swim. They look forward to practices and meets as times when they will have fun. "The joy of swimming will last a lifetime."
