UGANDA CRICKET CRANES FINALLY GET NEW HEAD COACH.

UGANDA CRICKET CRANES FINALLY GET NEW HEAD COACH.

South Africa’s U-19 Coach Lawrence Mahatlane has been announced as the new national team coach for the Uganda Cricket Cranes.

This development was announced by the Uganda Cranes Association after a long search.

Lawrence Matatlane fills the gap that was left by Steve Tikolo early this year and takes over from David Turinawe who has been handling the Cricket Cranes on an interim basis.

“We are very excited to have a coach of such caliber in the setup. He finds the team on an upward spiral and we believe he will continue with the momentum already gathered. He will also be a very key figure in setting up the structures for the national teams. We wish him the best of luck in his new position,” reads part of the press release by Martin Ondeko, the CEO of Cricket Uganda.

Mahatlane will join the Cricket Cranes on a three-year deal and he is expected in the country when travel restriction is lifted.

The 44-year-old has been coaching the South Africa U-19s since 2014 as well as working as a sports commentator with South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

Mahatlane finds the Cricket Cranes at the top of ICC World Cup Challenge League B after sweeping through the first leg in Oman late last year.
