Uganda Crested Cranes snatched a Total Energies Women Africa Cup of Nations point after drawing 2 all with 10-man Burkina Faso in the last Group A game played on Friday. 8th. July. 2022 in Morocco.

Crested Cranes Head Coach George Lutalo made three changes from the team that started against Morocco on Tuesday bringing into the starting eleven; Goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro for the sick Ruth Aturo, Forward Margret Kunihira and Defender Aisha Nantongo however, Lutalo maintained his mid-field trio of Joan Nabirye, Shamirah Nalugya and Sandra Nabweteme.

After the first whistle, it were the Crested Cranes who tasted the sweetness of scoring as early as the 8th minute through Kunihira.

The 17-year old forward scored off a brilliant assist by Nalugya but later in the 35th minute, the Crested Cranes gave away their lead cheaply after Burkina Faso’s Congo ran through the entire defence to slot home the equalizer.

Three minutes later, the Crested Cranes bounced back through a superbly taken Nabweteme strike but this happiness was short-lived as Burkina Faso in the 41st made it 2 all with the goal coming from Kabre after Nakaziro failing to handle the ball safely.

After the break, the Crested Cranes pushed forward so impressively but could not utilize the chances that they managed to create against a Burkina Faso side which played more 70 minutes of the game with ten players.

It was a disappointing end result for the Crested Cranes who looked to have had the up hand after Burkina Faso had been reduced to 10 men with the sending off of Madinatou Rouamba.

The result means the Crested Cranes end their WAFCON stay in Morocco on one point from three games in Group A, together with Burkina Faso while Morocco and Senegal go into the quarter final stage.

In the other games, Uganda lost 2-0 to Senegal and 3-1 to Morocco thanks to Komuntale's beautiful free kick strike.
