TOTAL ENERGIES U17 AFCON ZONAL QUALIFIERS: THE CUBS ON COURSE DESPITE CHANGES IN KICKOFF DATES

Energies raise higher in the Uganda U17 National Team camp as kick off of the TotalEnergies U17 AFCON Zonal Qualifiers (CECAFA Region) dates get closer.

Uganda was drawn in Group B together with Djibouti, Rwanda, Sudan and Burundi, however no team from Rwanda showed up for participation, leaving four teams in the group.

The same underwent in in Group A when Eritrea failed to send a team.

This reduces the total number of teams from 10 to 8 and also changed the tournament days and fixtures. Tentative new dates as per the CECAFA ONLINE release are 1st to 14th October 2022 whereas latest fixtures are yet to be released by the organizers.

Uganda U17 National Team is in Ethiopia since 25th September residing at Holiday Hotel and conducting sessions at CAF Technical Center in Addis Ababa.

Head coach-Hamuza Lutalo traveled with a 22-man squad which he believes is ready for title defense.

"The entire team is in good shape, getting used to the weather. We shall have a good display if the weather conditions remain the same." Said Hamuza.

The Cubs are the defending champions after lifting the trophy in 2020 in Rwanda.

Group A:

Ethiopia, Tanzania, Somalia, South Sudan

Group B: Uganda, Djibouti, Sudan, Burundi

The best two teams from each group will qualify for the semi finals. The winners and runners-up will qualify to represent the region in the U-17 AFCON 2023 in Algeria.
