TOKYO 2020 OLYMPIC GAMES’ CANDIDATE WINS INAUGURAL UBF SHADOW BOXING CHALLENGE.

Uganda National Bombers Captain, Shadir Musa Bwogi was declared the winner of the inaugural Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) challenge.

Bwogi who was among the over 500 participants collected 75 points, just three more than second Alex Bwambale who finished second.

Shadir Musa Bwogi won himself a cash price of Ugandan Shillings, One Million (1,000,000 /-) and a certificate that was handed to him by the patron of UBF, Capt. Michael Mukula at the prize giving function hosted at the Lugogo Hockey Grounds, Kampala on Thursday, 2nd,July, 2020.

Sweden based Bwambale who finished in second position walked away with Ugs. Shs. 750,000/- and a certificate.

In position three were Isaac Masembe and Joshua Nyanzi who tied on 65 points; and each one of them bagged Ugs. Shs. 250,000 and a certificate.

Speaking at the price giving ceremony, the chief guest who also doubles as the Patron of UBF Capt. Mukula spoke well of the leadership boxing for the initiative. He also used the platform to call for increased government funding for the body federation.

“This has been a wonderful initiative and I commend the Uganda Boxing Federation for such an sporting scheme,” Capt. Mukula said of the challenge.

“I appeal to the Government to consider more funding to boxing body because this is the sports goldmine of Uganda,” he added.

The ceremony was also graced by National Council of Sports (NCS) Board Chairman, Donald Rukare, the Assistant General Secretary of NCS, David Ssemakula Katende, the UNAIDS Country Director Dr. Karusa Kiragu, UBF officials, boxers, coaches and member of the media.

On his behalf and on behalf of UBF, President Moses Muhangi thanked all the participants for taking part in the challenge and promised more of the like.

To take part in this challenge, one had to record him/herself shadow boxing and upload the 30 seconds video on the federation’s social media platform that included Face book, Twitter and Instagram.

The likes and views from the video earned one 40 percent of the total percentage and the 60 percent was allocated to technical decisions based on punch variations , footwork, speed, anticipation, imagination, defense and time management.
