Uganda Lady Cranes rugby team has had a cursed rugby past but now as they prepare to play their first game in the Rugby Africa Cup tomorrow, the team is ready to believe.

The Lady Cranes who had not played a competitive game for the five years only came into action in 2019 in the Elgon Cup and thereafter playing in the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa, Kenya and Madagascar in South Africa will be back in action after two years of no action on Wednesday. 14th. July. 2021 in the Rugby Africa Cup at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds and the Head Coach Leonard Lubambula believes that the team is ready to pull off a good show in both encounters against Zimbwabwe Women Sables in the Rugby Africa Cup in Group C action that kicks off on Wednesday. 14th. July.2021 at the Kyadondo Rugby Grounds.

“We want to win both our Rugby Africa games against Zimbabwe tomorrow,” Leonard Lubambula said.

“This is a huge opportunity for us to have a momentum going into next year’s campaign, which is the World Cup window,” added the World Rugby certified Level 2 coach who replaced Edgar Lemeriga.

The Lady Cranes entered camp in Jinja and Namugongo respectively two months ago in preparations for the Rugby Africa Cup; a campaign they start tomorrow.

The two games against Zimbabwe in the Rugby Africa Cup starting tomorrow and the other coming on Sunday. 18th. July. 2021 will be a platform for the Lady Cranes to overcome their past dark days and start a new journey.

The Rugby Lady Cranes’ last win came in 2013 when they defeated Kenya 13-8 in the return leg of the Elgon Cup at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds.

The team will feature 7 debutants in; Patricia Anek, Sarah Kirabo, Angella Nanyonjo, Emily Lekuru, Lyton Nakabugo, Maimuna Nassozi and Suzan Adong.

 Forwards: 1 Patricia Anek, 2 Yvonne Najjuma, 3 Faith Namugga, 4 Winnie Atyang, 5 Sarah Kirabo, 6 Angella Nanyonjo, 7 Mary Gloria Ayot, 8 Lydia Namabiro.
Backs: 9 Julie Nandawula, 10 Charlotte Mudoola, 11 Agnes Nakuya, 12 Peace Lekuru (C), 13 Emily Lekuru, 14 Grace Auma, 15 Samiya Ayikoru.
Reserves: 16 Fazila Namukwaya, 17 Peace Mirembe, 18 Lyton Nakabugo, 19 Teddy Iwutung, 20 Maimuna Nassozi, 21 Asha Nakityo, 22 Masitula Namboozo, 23 Suzan Adong.
