Federation of Uganda Football Associations _ FUFA has today Wednesday. 13. July. 2022 revealed that dream of having an African football continental championship for schools as pledged by the CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepein his manifesto and program for the youth and grassroots football will kick off this month with the Ugandan chapter playing it's edition at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru starting on the Saturday. 17. July. 2022.

The Programme is the backbone CAF's strategy with in it's membership to uplift the level of football in terms of skills development and competition at the world stage.

While speaking to the media at the presentation of the teams that have been selected to take part in the first ever edition of the CAF African Schools Champions at FUFA House Mengo, the FUFA Deputy CEO in charge of football Decolas Kiiza said that this CAF African Schools Football Programme which is in a partnership with African Governments and 41 Football Associations will not only aim at developing the football skills but also encompass some education and life development skills to the participants.

"Besides offering the boys and girls with the platform to compete, the programme also involves provision of education, coaching and skills development courses," Kiiza noted 

"The participating schools will also benefit from the capacity building and training program with teachers getting selected to enrol in CAF coaching programmes," he added.

The children from each participating school will deputize their teachers in administrative roles within the team set-up to learn first-hand the qualities required to lead a winning team.

They will also be selected to learn media related skills like journalism and TV/Radio commentary as well be trained on how to interpret the Laws of Football; including being given opportunities to officiate matches during the championship.

Teams that have been selected to take part in this first edition include Mukono Kings High School, St. Mary’s SS, Kitende, Buddo SS, Standard High School- Zzana,Teso College Aloet, Amus College, Kibuli SS, Jinja SSS, Dynamic SS and Royal Giant School in the boys category.

In the girls category, Kawempe Muslim SS, Uganda Martyrs High School- Lubaga, Rines SS, Jinja SS, Wakiso Hill SS, King of Kings SS - Fort Portal, Tagy High School, Gadhafi Integrated Academy, Olila High School and Royal College Namugongo will also take part.

This continental championship is only open to players between the ages of 12-15 years; born between 1st Jan 2008 – 31st December 2011.
