Located in Luweero, 39 km from the city centre, Kampala sits a 55-acre estate which has been home to Motor Sport activities for some good time now. The latest innovation there is the development of this well known Sports Park into a modern sports village.

Some of the other activities visitors can enjoy at Extreme Adventure Park.

According to the Extreme Adventure Park director, Evas Orland, they are using this time of the national lock down to make massive improvements on the estate beyond just being a motor sport attraction centre to an adventure sports village and upon its completion; it will be the first of its kind in Uganda.

“Just imagine a clean-scented haven where an athlete or a sports team can pitch camp for residential training while enjoying all the benefits of an upcountry vacation,” said Barak Orland one of the proprietors of Extreme Adventure Park.

“Our idea is to build a sports village so sportsmen can come and enjoy the facilities without any disturbances. Right now we are going slowly because the lock down has limited what we can do, in terms of how many people can be onsite, getting the materials and stuff like that. But we are like marathon runners and not sprinters; we are looking at the long term, not short term and truly, we will get there.” Evas Orland added.

The latest additions to the facility are five new cottages and a swimming pool which is surrounded with a spacious and decorated sitting pool area.

Dressing rooms which have taken the residential capacity of the property to 12, classy, self-contained rooms are also nearly complete.

“If people come from outside Uganda for sports competitions and they find such quality services, they will take the country seriously and wish to come back for adventure. That’s why we are trying to set up good facilities.”

At Busiika Extreme Adventure Park one can enjoy a huge range of different sports and activities. There’s a state-of-the-art Motor Cross, Motor rallying, and cycling track; a football pitch, while adventure-seekers can get pleasure from the Low and High Ropes Challenge Course, Target Shooting and Paintball Shooting; in addition to other group fun games and delicious dishes served under the catering services which can handle up to 200 clients on a daily basis.

Our plans are big and in five years from now, we want the facility to have a gym and an arena for indoor sports and maybe then, we will say that our sports village is complete,” Barak reveals.

“We are not doing this for money but for recreation and education for our children. Sport is about education because the majority of children who play a sport will not become professionals. But doing sports teaches them many things they can't learn in school. This is what our investment in sports is all about - to educate our children,” Barak adds.

Upon completion, the Orlands believe that they would have played their part in the nurturing of sports in the country and maybe many people would then use this as an inspiration to open up more sports and recreation facilities that are still lacking in the country.
