12 TEAMS TO FEATURE IN THE FUFA BIG LEAGUE NEXT SEASON.

Come next season, the Star Times FUFA Big League will be comprised of 12 teams FUFA has confirmed.

According to statement from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations and signed by the federation’s Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson Suubi, the decision arose from the decision that halted the FUFA Regional League(s) due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

“The Star Times FUFA Big League 2021/2022 season shall have 12 clubs. The format of play will be communicated,” part of the statement read.

It is also expected that FUFA will do away with the two groups format of Elgon and Rwenzori and play the Big League under one group.

The 2020/2021 FUFA Big League season had 16 teams taking part but upon its conclusion, two teams; Tooro United Football Club and Arua Hills Sports Club earned automatic promotion to the Star Times Uganda Premier League while four other teams namely; Proline Football Club, Gaddafi United, Blacks Power Football Club and Nyamityobora Football Club will face off in a playoffs to fight for the third promotion slot to the top tier.

The Big League playoffs still on hold pending clearance by the government amid the ongoing 42-day suspension of sports activities.

Additionally, four teams namely; Mbale Heroes, Paidha Black Angels, Kigezi HomeBoyz and Terrazo & Tiles were relegated to the FUFA Regional League(s); and three teams; MYDA Football Club, Kitara Football Club and Kyetume Football Club were dropped from the Star Times Uganda Premier League.

This decision means that teams in the FUFA Regional League(s) will have to wait for the coming season to taste promotion to the Big League.
