The draws for the round of 16 of the 2022/23 Stanbic Uganda Cup were  successfully conducted with remaining 16 teams in the competition getting to know their opponents.

The draws were held on the morning of Tuesday. 28th. March. 2023 at FUFA House, Mengo under the watchful eye of the FUFA 3rd Vice President Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi.

Also in attendance was one of Uganda's greatest goalkeeper Sadiq Wassa who used the platform to share his story of the Uganda Cup which he won both as a player and as a coach.

The former Uganda Cranes Star took part in the picking of the draws and when he got an opportunity to speak to the media about the competition; he  said he enjoyed it for it thrilling nature being a knockout tournament.

"I thank FUFA for inviting me to be part of today's draws, Sadiq Wassa remarked.

"I’m privileged to have won the Uganda Cup both as a player and a coach.

"This competition is worth winning because knockout games are always thrilling."

Wassa won the Uganda Cup as a player at KCC Football Club (now KCCA FC) in 1990.

"I remember Sports Club Villa had won the League and were aiming to clinch a double. They had beaten us midweek to lift the League title and we had to face them in the Uganda Cup final over the weekend. Luckily, we defeated them and denied them a double.” 

After his playing career, Wassa also continued to enjoy the sweetness of lifting this prestigious Cup when he added two championships to his name when he was at URA FC in 2011/12 and 2013/14 seasons as goalkeeping coach.

The round of 16 games are scheduled to take place between 11th - 17th March 2023.
