SPORTS AND CORONA VIRUS: UOC SECRETARY GENERAL DONALD RUKARE ADVICES NATIONAL FEDERATIONS TO EMBRACE TECHNOLOGY.
Uganda Olympic Committee Secretary General, who also doubles as Chairperson of National Council of Sports Donald Rukare, has urged heads of national sports associations to embrace technology amidst the corona virus pandemic that has brought of the sports activities in the country to a standstill.
He gave this counsel in his keynote presentation on sports governance during a virtual meeting of UOC members last Friday.
“The lock down that we are facing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted sports activities and brought into focus the need to refocus how operations are done from a governance perspective,” said Rukare in his presentation.
“The ability to remain effectively and efficiently operational is critical now. We must be ready and equipped to operate in the new reality. For example, in our lines of duty, there are some operations that do not require physical meetings and these we achieve by embracing technology so as we remain relevant to all our associates,” he added.
The UOC virtual meeting that attracted up to 38 association heads, the first of its kind in the history of Ugandan sports was chaired by UOC president, William Blick.
In his remarks, the UCO president urged all the athletes who had qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics by the time it was called off to remain focused on personal training for fitness.
