Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) held its first Annual General Assembly (AGM) under the new executive led by Dipu Ruparelia as President.

Dipu Ruperelia and his team took office of the national motorsports governing body in February 2020 just before Covid-19 struck and the eventual lock down that impacted heavily on sports in Uganda and beyond.

In the AGM that sat on Saturday. 6th. February. 2021 at the Kabira Hotel, in Kampala members deliberated on a number of issues rotating around effective governance, constitutionalism and sports development.

In his address Dipu Ruparelia assured the members that his executive is going to run the sports following good governance principles especially the on of being accountable.

He also pledged to take on the constitution review process to a conclusion.

“We intend to start and complete the process of the constitutional review,” Dipu Ruperelia vowed.

“A committee led by our Electoral Commission Chairman shall guide this process to its logical conclusion as soon as possible and the amendments will be passed within the next four months to ensure that our governance challenges are made simple,” he added.

The Executive also presented to the Annual General Meeting members of the various commissions for approval. These included; Media Commission, Women’s Commission, Sporting Commission, Medical Commission and Marketing Commission.

Leon Ssenyange, Isaac Rwakiseta and Peter Kakaire are the new members of the Sporting Commission while the Women’s Commission will be headed by former National Rally Champion Suzan Muwonge.

Dipu Ruparelia also revealed to the members that the federation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Development Infrastructure Limited (DI), an Arua based firm to take motorsport to West Nile.

"DI is providing 100% of the financial muscle to develop 30 acres of land to build a motorsport arena to cater for rallying, motocross, karting and drifting event, while FMU is providing strictly technical support at this initial stage and upon completion, FMU shall own 10% shares from the project," the president noted.

The assembly also approved and passed a budget of Ugandan Shillings 2 billion for the 2021 season.

The Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda executives says its watching events keenly and at the meeting, the president hit on the fact that they are confident that the Pearl of Africa Rally and the Continental Motocross of African Nations events will remain on course.

This is good news to the drivers who desperate to get racing again after the entire 2020 NRC and ARC calendars were wiped out after the out break of the COVID -19 Pandemic.

The FMU Annual general Meeting was graced by National Council of Sports Assistant General Secretary, David Katende.
