The Uganda put up an outstanding performance in their second game at the ongoing Total Energies 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco but failed to pull off a positive result, falling 3-1 to the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco on Tuesday. 5th. July. 2022 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex.

The Crested Cranes started the game brightly but an early mistake in defence cost them as they gave away a penalty goal in the 14 minute scored by Rosella Ayane.

After going down, Uganda came back strongly and their fight paid off in the 32nd minute when Sumaya komuntale saw the back of the net from a free kick to level terms with the hosts whom they also kept on the defensive in the last quarter of the first half.

 Uganda came back strongly pushing the hosts deep into their half and dominating possession with some threatening moments but it were the hosts who struck again in the 68th minute.

George Lutalo’s troops gave away a free-kick which was poorly defended and thus resulted into the second goal for the Moroccans through Nesryne Elchad who nodded home from close range.

In the last minutes of the game, Uganda gave away another penalty that was converted by Chebbak in the 84th minute. The foul committed also led to the sending off of Uganda’s goal scorer for a second bookable offense.

Uganda have now played and lost two games; with the first defeat (2-0) coming against Senegal on the opening day; and will now have to win their last group game against Burkina Faso if they are to stand any chance of making it to the quarter finals stage.

Uganda vs Burkina Faso will be played on Friday. 8th. July. 2022 at the Stade Mohammed V stadium.
